Direction Unit: Project Update

Here's my finished script, copies have been given to my two cast members; now I will finish a shot list and schedule then I should be ready to film. 

“Dexter”
Series 1 Episode 1

1. Ext. Maidstone- NIGHT

On a calm evening, down a narrow, empty street lined with terrace houses, we see a middle-aged, built MAN walking in and out of the burning streetlights, this is DEXTER.

DEXTER (V/O)
Tonight’s the night.

We see DEXTER from a distance, passing parked cars one by one as he thinks to himself…

DEXTER (V/O)
And it’s going to happen again and again.
                                        (pause)
Has to happen.

Around the street are small, uneven hedges and brick walls guarding the houses. He approaches brighter shop lights towards a QUIET high street, we see the silhouette of a CHURCH in the distance.

DEXTER (V/O)
Nice night.

DEXTER reaches into his worn dark jacket pockets, protecting him from the chilled autumn breeze. He casually slips on a leather pair of gloves.

DEXTER (V/O)
Maidstone is a great town…
                   (pause)
...I love the British food
                   (pause)
Pork sandwiches, my favourite.

The harsh lights of the shops, restaurants and take-aways draw nearer as DEXTER moves closer.

DEXTER (V/O)
But I’m hungry for something different now.

DEXTER stops in a patch of darkness, confidently and carefully hidden from view.

DEXTER (V/O)
There he is.

We see a sharply dressed MAN standing outside the church door, smiling warmly at his mobile phone in his hands. He continues to stare down at his phone as he walks down the steps away from the entrance.

DEXTER is watching his movements from a distance.

DEXTER (V/O)
Mike Donovand
He’s the one.

2. EXT. Mike’s Car - NIGHT

MIKE approaches his car, parked tightly between the terraced houses, he unlocks the door with his key and gets in. A bright light illuminates a stairwell in the background.

3. INT. Mike’s Car - NIGHT

Mike starts the engine. SUDDENLY his head is pulled back with a cord around his neck. We see Dexter pulling the cord tighter, and smirking to himself in the back seat. Mike chokes, his body becomes stiff with fear.

DEXTER
You’re mine now so do exactly as I say.

MIKE
(Struggling with his neck)
What do you want?

DEXTER
I want you to be quiet
                       (pause)
Now drive.

We see the cord wrapped around Mike’s neck, pulling at the skin. The car pulls away hesitantly to the dark end of the street and away from the lights of the high street.

They drive down a pitch black lane littered with tall trees and surrounded by hostile metal fencing with barbed wire. Dexter still holding an obedient Mike by the cord around his neck.

DEXTER
Turn here.

They veer off the empty road to an abandoned park. Dexter releases the cord sharply and gets out the car. Mike coughs weakly and holds his neck in pain and fear. Dexter opens his car door and grabs him by the neck as Mike clings onto his hands. Dexter pulls him out of the car viciously and throws him to the ground in front of the car’s beaming lights.

DEXTER
Now you have to listen…
...and do what I say.

Dexter circles a frightened Mike, who is staring up from the ground in desperation. Dexter throws down the cord around his neck and drags him backwards along the ground and into the woods, Mike struggles, he kicks his legs and attempts to hold onto the cord.
