"The Meeting"
'The Meeting' tells the hard-hitting realistic story of ANNA, a prickly 16 year-old student from Middlesbee Grammar School for Girls. She excludes herself from large groups of people; she is often viewed by others as inappropriate and unfocused. Until, she meets TALIE down a wooded path on her journey to school. Talie possesses everything Anna wants; she is confident, mature, out-spoken and also mysterious. Anna has her doubts as they form an unusual and unlikely relationship with each other.
Anna’s curiosity grows, as does her fondness for her new friend, who continues to appear everyday in the same place. She feels understood by Talie thus making her feel somewhat stronger. The paranoia she is familiar with at school disappears, and instead, a desire to be notorious and feared by others manifests.
The pace of the story quickens, Anna’s father becomes concerned; he notices a change in her behaviour and once she begins to arrives home later each night. He attempts to confront her, but she distances herself even more. An incident at school the next day, and a phone call at his place of work, increases his suspicions further.
As a result of the overbearing attention from her father, the excitement builds when Anna decides to run away with Talie the same evening. They prepare to escape by train, however, Anna sees a reflection in the windows of the train to find herself standing alone. In a state of panic, she realises everything is not as it seems. She frantically turns back to the woods where she first met Talie in search of a sign. The truth unravels as Anna must face her past, and accept that everyone was trying to help her.
‘The Meeting’ is an intense, gritty psychological drama, following the journey of an unusual and ambitious teen, overshadowed by unfortunate events from the past.
