For the Narrative & Genre unit we are to submit a 2,500 word essay titled: "Choosing a specific television production, identify and examine its use of genre and narrative tools; and, how an online or portable media transmission would affect these tools".
Once I have chosen a programme, I will examine its use of iconography, symbolism and metaphor; with regards to the use of colour, sound, rhythm, contrast, form, repetition and editing. I will look at the set of conventions and characteristic devices the programme displays and whether they conform to a certain genre. I will look at how the audience uses genre and how they rely on narrative devices. I will also explore cross genres and their relation to contemporary online and mobile media productions and the debates and discussions surrounding broadcast media within post-modern contexts.
